Counting My Blessings for 2010
My best friend emailed me an exercise, “Count Your Blessing for 2010,” that ask for a list of 10 happy memories of 2010. It reminded me that Restaurant Baby also has much to be thankful for.
Nothing is more exciting than when we find our friends and family taking notice of our efforts, and supporting us in our work. Getting to know a person means taking an interest not only in who they are, but also in their work, even when it is not of common interest. One’s work is what one invests their valuable time and talents on. If it’s important to our loved ones, it should be important to us.
I am thankful to the many good friends who took an interest in Restaurant Baby. What are your 10 happy memories of 2010?
Restaurant Baby’s Gleeful Memory of 2010
The title:
Restaurant Baby started out as Hot and Sour. Thinking of an appropriate was difficult. After writing the “About” page, my sister Kim suggested Restaurant Baby. The name is truly encompassing of our experience with food and our stories growing up. See Kim’s “This I Believe – Chinese Take-out” essay on being a restaurant baby.
My very own domain:
I literally squealed with glee one summer morning when I received an email from my friend David (www.heatandknives.com) – “Surprise! I was thinking we might as well do it (own domain) sooner rather than later.”
Yes – David bought me the domain name, and has been hosting the site.
It was one of those awesome unexpected “just because” gift . He also helped me transfer all my information, gave me quick lessons on basic coding, and introduced me to helpful programs like Filezilla and Firebug. David and our friend Miran of Turtle Shell Design still continues to help me with the format of the site.
The twitter account:
My twitter account was created by Kim, who made sure the name restaurant baby was reserved for me. I am not as technology savvy – it took me a few more months before I logged on, and I am still new to twitter. But my sister – she got my back.
The banner:
Without ever asking for a new banner, Miran and David made a banner using the images already on the site. Miran took an hour or so, and voila!- I got four rotating banners. It was a complete surprise and thoughtful gift.
You – the readers:
Lastly, thank you to all my friends who have been stopping by the site. I’ve also made new friends through blogging, and appreciate all the spunky personalities and spirited people I am connecting with.

There has been so much positive energy around Restaurant Baby. Thank you all for your support, and I look forward to our year together in 2011! Wishing you a blessed new year.

Looking forward to more Restaurant Baby postings in the many years to come =)
I like the mini history of the blog! I also have a request for 2011…do a noodle soup recipe!
Noodle soup is a good idea. You should do a guest post on that.
